12th September 2008

Allan 8 David 11

David was up and at them tonight as he raced into a dominant 8-2 lead. The American

was breaking well and making difficult centre pocket shots look very easy. Allan clawed

his way back and trailed 9-6 before eventually losing 11-8.

7th August 2008

Allan 12 David 10

Allan was on good form tonight despite not having played for quite a while. He led from

the off and David only got going towards the end to make the score quite

a respectable 12-10.

28th June 2008

Allan 12 David 16

Allan found himself 3-0 down at the start of the game despite playing very well. The balls

were being potted but lady luck wasn't on side but he recovered well to win the next three frames. David coolly took the next three though to leave it at 6-3. Allan took the next two

and it looked like even Stephens again but David rewrote the script and bounced into a

good lead at 10-6. Allan finally got his game going again but David was feeling confident

with a good lead. He likes to front run rather than chase the game. Allan went down to

15-10 before taking the next two frames. David won the last frame of the night to

win 16-12, and deservedly so.

16th June 2008

Allan 16 David 5

A night David wishes to forget. Mind you the American started out OK against the

. After the first 6 games the scores were level and both players expected another cat

and mouse night. A combination of some bad luck on David's part and some solid mistake

free pool from Allan saw Allan take a 9-5 lead. Allan seven balled David as he ran in the

next frames to win 16-5 on the night. It means Allan regains the lead overall for 2008.

2nd June 2008

Allan 13 David 11

After a long break the duo resumed their friendly pool-fire. Allan turned up

after searching with no joy, for his cue. Luckily David asked the pool hall if a

cue had been left behind and Allan and his trusty stick were reunited. The

pool broke off in ingainly fashion with games won and lost by flukes and missed

chances. David eventually took a 8-6 lead over Allan.

The American was making his bread and butter shots count and although

Allan was finding his tactical game it took a concentrated effort for Allan to get

back on top taking the next five games to lead 11-8. Both were now playing well

as David drew back to 11-11. With two games left to play it was Allan who took

his chances to edge ahead. David\s final shot of the night was to scratch on the

black leaving the Brit a 13-11 winner!

8th May 2008

Allan 15 David 13

After David opened out a good lead Allan found his form and edge ahead 14-11. David

got to within one game of his adversary before Allan won the last game of the night.

Allan 7 balled David on this evening for the first time.

18th April 2008

Allan 17 David15

This was a top quality game. Both players making shots and playing some clever pool.

It was neck and neck all the way. David took the early advantage and led for a short

time by two frames but after 12 frames the two amigos were 6-6. After this it was

Allan's turn to edge ahead but David kept pretty close until Allan found himself

14-11 ahead. David again found himself under pressure but managed to claw back

to 16-15. With the last frame of the night going to Allan, the Brit finally ended

his losing streak.

17th April 2008

Matt 10 David 6

Matt 6 David 8

It was Matt's night for the first part of the night despite David playing well. He

won the first duel 10-6 but David fought back and the next match finished 8-6 in

the American's favour. they will resume next week sometime.

6th April 2008

Allan 12 David 13

With Allan back on the pool trail the two foes met up for a long evening of pool on

Sunday night. After being whooped a few days before, Allan was keen to get some

frames under his belt and get back to some good form. The frames started out fine enough for him and they locked horns at 2-2. David then took a two frame lead which Allan clawed back to 6-6. Allan then found some good form and David found some

bad fortune giving Allan a 4 frame lead 10-6. David though, showed a gritty side to

his game and he plodded away pulling back to 9-12. With the evening drawing in

David got stronger and finally won 13-12. 2007 was Allan's year but David is

looking good to take 2008 and currently has an 8 game cushion.

3rd April 2008

Matthew 4 Allan 1

Matthew 10 David 9

David 5 Allan 3

Allan joined the night late and found David and Matt locking horns in yet another

closely contested evening of pool. The scores were 7-7 when Allan joined in the fun.

Allan was a bit ring rusty after quite a long absence. Matt and David were in rousing

form and the hits were big. Matt eventually won the decider in their contest before leaving Allan and David to play a few frames. Matt thumped Allan 4-1. David

continued his good run of form against Allan and won the night 5-3.

February & March 2008

Matthew 8 David 10

30th January 2008 Matthew 10 David 9

David cannot seem to break this pattern with Matthew. It's now 5 games in a

row with the most recent games being cliff-hangers!

24th January 2008 David 8 Allan 10

David hit the trail first tonight and won the first two games. Allan then took the next 6 games and found some form. David expressed his frustration with "the cure ball is killing me", referring to the many times he had made amazing pots yet to find the white ball working against him. David did start to pick opf a few games and clawed back to 9-5. He then took the next 3 to trail 9-8 before Allan won the final game of the night.

8th January 2008 David 13 Allan 6

Well David got his just reward tonight with an emphatic win over Allan.

Allan never really got into his usual groove and David played a relentless potting game and eased into an 8-4 lead. After that Allan clawed a couple of games back but David

was too strong and won the night 13-6.

2nd January 2008 Matthew 10 David 9

Matt carries on where he left off in 2007 with a 10-9 victory over David. Another

close contest but Matt remained the coolest to win the night after a close dog fight!

28th November 2007 Matthew 10 David 8

There really wasn't much in this game! Matt took the lead 1-0 David drew level.

Matt went ahead again 2-1 and David again drew level and this was the pattern

all the was to 8-8. Matt duly won the next game and took the next to win on the

night 10-8. He now leads David 94-78 in games.

25th November 2007 Allan 11 David 6

David commented before the game that it had been a long while since the last time

he and Allan had played. In fact it had been nearly three months and both men really looked forward to a night of battle. Unfortunately for David it was business as usual

as he struggled for momentum in the early frames. As usual there wasn't much in it

but his usually good potting game just wasn't firing. Allan took the first two games

before David got off the mark. But soon it was 5-2 and then 7-3 before Allan looked

to be home and dry at 10-3. Then the game swung 180 degrees as David at last,

found his form and hit back with three straight games. 10-6 and one frame to play

and Allan managed to stop the rot winning on the night 11-6.

2nd October 2007 Matthew 12 David 11

Yet another absorbing contest!

23rd September 2007 Matthew 13 David 11

David & Matthew played excellent pool in this closely contested match. Big shots

all night with Matt just about edging the tactical battle!

6th September 2007 Allan 13 David 6

David treated Allan to an evening out for his 41st birthday. Dinner in town followed

by some pool was the ticket. With bellies delightfully full, the two amigo's arrived at

the pool house on the Ferdinandbolstraat for another episode.

David won the first match but Allan then rattled off 4 games in a row before David

next won a frame. From 6-2 Allan looked pretty comfortable and he stretched

David to the tee, making him work for every frame. Allan was on good form and went

12-3 up. David then hit some decent form to take the next three games before Allan

won the last frame of the night. This means Allan now leads 300 to 203 overall!

30th August 2007 Matthew 13 David 8

Revenge for Matthew this time. It was a fairly close contest for a while with Matt up

7-6 before turning the screw. It was a game where several other players stopped

and stared at the shot making! Matthew must have pleased the Pool god more this

time around!

h August 2007 Allan 16 David 8

Allan was in a mean mood tonight... one of those nights when he could see everything and was making pots even David would be jealous of. David just couldn't get going

with his bread and butter shots letting him down. Before long it was 6-1 to Allan and

then David staged a mini revival. Allan had potted some great shots but left himself snookered on the black a couple of times so David crept up to 4-8 down. Allan has

been pretty consistent over the last few weeks and he knuckled down and put the

match beyond doubt to lead 16-5. David though found some heart and won the last

three frames of the night.

 July 2007 Allan 14 David 8

David was in confident mood after his recent performance against Matthew. But he soon discovered Allan to be a different prospect and was soon trailing to Allan 5-1. There were, as usual some terrific battles, but Allan seemed to win the critical moments even when David had potted more balls. David did get back to 7-6 but Allan refocussed and ran out a 14-8 winner. David did comment that he needs to play Allan in a different way. His raw potting talent worked well against Matt but Allan is happy for David to pot and then make it really difficult for him to finish him off with some clever tactical play. Lots of fun had again though, and onwards to the next time.

12th July 2007 David 13 Matthew 9

David played his best pool and raced to an impressive 8-1 lead. Matt was doomed but clawed several games back as David tired. The score looks a lot better for Matthew but he was first to admit that the better man won on the night. This puts David only 6 games away from Matt, who leads 46-40 overall.

5th July 2007 David 7 Allan 10

The games commenced after a long pause and right from the off there were fun and games. Davd took the first game as Allan struggled to find his feet with three scratches. Allan then took the next 9 games with David baffled as to how he could miss some easy shots and yet pot some amazingly difficult ones. But the balance was nearly righted as eventually David found his form winning most of the last games to finish 10-7 down.

31st May 2007 David 7 Allan 16

A warm full moon evening in the Ferdinandbolstraat Pool house with Allan and

David resuming their marathon pool contest. David with a couple of heavy defeats

behind him was bouyed before they started, having received news of a possible job. With Allan expecting the arrival of his second child it seems change is on the horizon for the two mates. Except that is for the outcome of tonights game!

Allan was 5-1 up before David got into gear. He did manage to claw back a couple of frames to 5-3 but then Allan hit a bit of form and before he knew what hit him it was

12-4. It has to be said that David made things difficult for himself by gifting Allan a

couple of frames after looking like he was catching the Englishman.

The evening closed with Allan taking the last tow frames to make it 16-7.

19th May 2007 David 9 Allan 20

Well... another night and pretty much the same as last week only with a twist. David actually started badly and was down 8-2. From this point on David upped his game in what was a very good match. Harldy any flukes and some really good play making from both players.

12th May 2007 David 8 Allan 20

David and Allan started off pretty even stephens in this match but at 7-6 to David things went pear shaped for the American. Allan won 14 games on the trot! David ended with a winning frame but it was a night best remembered for him. Allan to be fair was in the zone although it could so easily have been a lot closer with several flukey shots and bad misses from his opponent.

29th April 2007 Matthew 12 Allan 10 David 3

David 1 Matthew 7; Matthew 5 Allan 6; David 2 Allan 4.

David set off at a brisk pace and fired away the first to frames of the night. The American looked to be on good form until he lost the next game, closely to Matt. Matt struggled with one of the centre's cues and couldn't get going. Allan set off on an unbeaten 9 frame run. Allan was in the zone but Matthew eventually got a win. Matt was now switching between Allan and David's cues and set himself up for an unbeaten 11 frame run.

Allan spoiled his party however by winning the last game of the night.

16th April 2007 David 11 Matthew 13

Matt and Dave resumed combat! Matt was relieved to come out victorious again and was quoted as saying:"I Beat David at Pool last night.... 13 - 11! But he is a bugger.

I potted the last colour to get on the black but I scratched.... The bugger then tucks up behind one of his 6 remaining colours so I scratched on the black.... you really have to keep an eye on him!! Matt is now 4 games in front overall.

8th March 2007 David 10 Matthew 12

This was a close game! David edged it and lead 9-8 but Matt never let him get too far away and over turned David as the night grew on. Matt leads David now by two games in the overall scores.

8th March 2007 David 9 Allan 3

David proved his rich vein of form was no on-off event as he took an early strangle hold of this match. Allan struggled from the off and his game was noticeably different from that of the past months, going for his shots more than usual and neglecting his tactical steady approach. David took the opportunity to get closer in the overall score and is now only a few games behind over 2007.

28th February 2007: David 14 Allan 8

David is back! Not since their first evening of pool back in June has David been able

to dominate an evening in such an emphatic way. Right from the off David was

playing with confidence. He took the first to frames and opened up a 5-1 lead

over a confused Allan. Allan plugged away but the usual stroke making wasn't

happening and the scores moved to 6-3 and then 8-4. Each frame was well

contested with Allan making the more costly of errors. Allan did get back to 10-7

but there was to be no comeback as David ran out to a 14-8 victory.

15th February 2007

Allan (GB), Jo (NL), David (USA) and Daniel (CH).

A good fun evening with two tables and rotating between each other.

It was really nice to see Danny again after several years. We couldn;t really remember exactly how long it had been but agreed he had grown but looked the same old Daniel.

There were some tough matches and some interestingly funny moments such as Jo congratulating Danny even though he had won but not known he had won!

Look out for another rematch soon! Can Chile beat the USA this time? Will Jo remember the rules? Will David emulate John McKenroe's behaviour again.

Or will it be Rule Britannia once more!!! (Te he he)!

3rd February 2007 David 9 Allan 19;

Another night of fun and frollicks on the the green baize. This time though the usual

close start was replaced with a burst of wins for Allan who led the early stages to be

6-2 up. David without his trusty cue battled gamely and the frames were all pretty

close. Though he toiled with his bent cue, David could catch Allan and could only

muster one game to every two that Allan won. They started around 8pm and by

1.30am their eyes had had enough and decided to call it a night with the scores at

19-9. Funniest play of the night: David had a juicy opportunity to snooker Allan

on the Black... His last words before fluffing the shot were; "Unless i do

something stupid!"... Nice one that!!!

David In Action

8th January 2007 David 6 Allan 8;

A New Year of Pool competition with David endeavoring to reverse his fortunes of 2006.
After a nice meal before the contest they got down to business... albeit rather rusty!

The first 6 games ping ponged and games Allan should have won, he lost and vice versa! It was sloppy stuff... The last match had been on the 1st of December so it was taking a while to adjust and David was the first to show some form and he began to pick Allan off.

Allan felt slightly unlucky not to win any of the next three frames but David was beginning to hit his shots and make less mistakes. So it was poised at 6-3 to David.
Allan then began to knuckle down in dread of being further behind and playing slightly more carefully his luck and form transformed. He took the next 4 games to leave it at 7-6. It was quite a come back! With time left for one more frame, David and Allan locked horns and it was a close game. Both had two balls left on the table... David missed a difficult pot and the white ball kindly rested into a good position for Allan to take the frame and match 8-6.

30th November 2006 David 8 Allan 16;

Another fun evening! David started out well by winning the first frame but Allan won

the next two and from that point David was always playing catch up. Soon Allan

had opened up a 7-3 which became 10-5 and finally 16-8. David though, it must

be said, didn't have the rub of the green. Allan was handed a few frames from

David's misfortune but did manage to 7 ball David on two occasions.

 14th November 2006 David 7 Allan 12;

It was business as usual for the first 11 frames of the contest tonight. With David employing a more tactical approach and Allan potting well it was nicely poised as 6-5 in Allan's favour.  Then the next frame Allan potted the black from the break to leave it at 6-6. The standard was pretty high and it was very close over the next two frames and scores were levelled once more at 7-7. The next frame proved to be critical in the outcome with Allan winning it and the next four to win the night 12-7.

3rd November 2006 David 10 Allan 12;

With the nights now drawing in we set off tonight in our winter coats to the pool centre on the Ferdinand Bolstraat. Luckily we had lights for our journey as the police were out revenue raising and we didn't want to have to club them with our pool cues! Anyway... the the match and it was pretty much the same as usual with the opening matches swinging from one to the other before Allan opened out a lead from being 4-2 in front that then stretched to 9-3. At 10-4 David suggested we call it an evening and we elected to play one more which he won and found new found optimism. David found his form and rattled the balls home to claw the games back. The match was brought back from the dead and nicely poised at 11-10 to Allan. Of course, we had to play another one! Allan took the last frame to win the night 12-10.

17th October 2006: David 7 Allan 8;

David rattled off the first game of the evening in usual fashion, long pots, impossible angles and needing no time to warm up. Allan, on the other hand, seemed to let the first frame pass him by, which it did! Things were in the balance again as Allan took the next frame. Then the scales tilted as he took the next three to lead 4-1. It was a busy evening at the pool house with a 9 ball competition in full swing. David took the next frame but the games went in sequence with Allan leading at 7-4. David responded under pressure and rescued the next three frames as they headed into the last at 7-7. Allan survived his mini slump and sunk the black to take the evening 8-7. David is now off on his travels back to the states and the games will resume in November.

14th October 2006: David 8 Allan 9;

Things were going as per usual. Neck and neck after the first 11 frames with David leading 6-5. Up to this stage, apart from one or two flukes the standard was very high. David's safety play improving and Allan potting like David! Then Allan won the next

three matches to win the best of 15 contest 8-6. It was at this stage that some incredible flukes and scratching on the blacks took part. Allan snookering David 4

times in a row, and even confusing David to believe he was snookered when he wasn't. After this period of snookers David left the balls in seemingly a safe positions

and actually stated out load, "Snooker me from that, if you can!" David incurred

the wrath of the snooker god as Allan dually hit a fluke shot and left David an

awful snooker which led to him winning the all important frame.

They played out the supposed last frame in which Allan, going for his shots, scratched

on the black. Not wanting to end the evening in such fashion they played another,

which David won emphatically to leave the scores at 8-8. So, another frame to

decide the evening. David, with his new cue, had the bit between his teeth, eventually had the game in his hands. He lined up for a clinching Black which he sunk in usual fashion. Unfortunately the white continued and followed the black into the pocket!

David was too flummoxed for words!

4th October 2006: David 6 Allan 9;

Allan got the upper hand on this best of 15 frame evening. It all started very brightly for David as he raced off to a 4-1 lead. He was in a mean focussed mood and gave virtually nothing away. Allan gradually got back on terms with some evil tactical play winning 7 games on the trot to lead 8-4. The confidence in David's game waned but he did win 2 of the next 3 frames. His own tactical game starting to cause Allan some problems.  This tactic may have to be employed more often as Allan now has a 20 frame advantage. The first to 100 frames wins a Ferrari Dino from the other player.... oh if only!

24th September 2006: David 14 Allan 19;

Allan Breaks

Another marathon evening of pool! With the the usual top floor of the pool centre being closed, David and Allan were on the ground floor playing on different tables. The tables, old fashioned, wooden and slightly lower, were pretty worn but the atmosphere in the room was very nice. David had quite a bit to  make up after recent results and for the opening 10 frames kept edging one game in front only for Allan to keep leveling. The scores were balanced at 7-7 when Allan opened up a 4 frame lead at 13-9. David's potting was, at times, unbelievable. Shots from impossible angles were being sunk but he couldn't kill the game of due to a mix of his errors and some good tactical play from Allan. At 19-11 things looked decidedly worse for David but he kept his head and nerve to pull a few back before they called it a night at 19-14.

David long potting and in a fix with the 8 ball...

17th September 2006: David 5 Allan 8; Allan 3 Matthew 6;

David 3 Matthew 2.

Another round robin evening with the three musketeers! Allan and Matt arrived slightly early and managed to get a couple of games played before David arrived. Allan won the first game with his new pool cue but was soon brought down to earth when Matt won the next two games. Matt was playing much better than two weeks ago and managed to stay ahead of Allan but struggle against David. Allan was 7-0 up before David was able to win 5 on the bounce as the evening drifted to 1am. Some fine shots played, some incredible misses and a couple of games lost when potting the black to win!

10th September 2006: Allan 12 David 6

Matthew decided not to join the fun tonight so David and Allan resumed their long series of matches. Early on it was very close with a couple of scratching the black matches and some great extrovert potting. The scores were level at 5-5 before Allan took the next 6 matches. David eventually grabbed a game to stop the tide but the last match was won by Allan to make it 12-6 on the night. Allan moves to 9 games in front!

31st August 2006: David 4 Allan 5; Allan 7 Matthew 1; David 2 Matthew 3.

Matthew joined David and Allan for an evening of pool.

It was winner stays on and David started the proceedings by beating Allan to

bring him within one game of the leader. David and Allan's recent pool marathons benefited them as Matthew struggled to win his first game.

Allan though found a good rhythm and the Pool God's were smiling on him as both

David and Matthew experienced scratching on the black in closely contested matches. Allan won 12 games, David 6 and Matthew 4.

Matthew later found some form and did manage to 7 ball David on two occasions.

18th August 2006: David 12 Allan 14

After leading for most of the evening, David never quite got far enough in front to dent Allan's spirit. Drawing on the frustrations of his day (his furniture still not arrived for the US) David's long potting was deadly accurate and he looked the more likely to win but for a few fortunate pots and some gritty tactical play from Allan. As the evening drew on the scores were level at 12-12 with two games to play. The last game went down to the black with David missing a difficult chance to level the contest. Allan was left with an easy shot to take a two game lead in the marathon.

11th August 2006: David 12 Allan 17

After a mammoth 4 hour pool playing session on Sat 11th Aug, Allan claws back the heavy losses from the first session to level the contest 22-22.

17th June 2006: David 10 Allan 5

After a long break David and Allan resume their Pool nights in Amsterdam. Allan won the first game but that was all he was granted as David rattled off the next 5 matches. Several clever pots and brave long pots got the American well clear from the Brit. Allan was pleased to win the last game so not to be further behind. It was certainly a David night and he now leads 10-5.
