Charlie
Comes Home Again!
27th June
2007
Charlie had a great week! It has all gone better than we
had expected.
He is eating a special diet called Neocate which i think
is more expensive than Caviar!
So... we could bring him home at last...

Charlie
Update 20th June

Had a meeting with the doctors today.
Charlie is doing much better and it looks like his
inflamed and infected bowels are on the mend.
He is still being fed via IV line but they have now
started to give him small doses of food.
He's very hungry which is a good sign but he can only
have 4ml of special food 8 times a day.
This they will build up over the next 2-3 weeks and we
hope to have him home then!

He weighed at birth 3810 grams but slipped to 3360grams.
Thankfully today he was 3720 grams, and nearly back to
where he began 17 days ago!
They finally ruled out the virus prognosis and are now
going with the milk / egg white allergy.
It could be that we only know this for sure when Charlie
is several months old
and they can test him better.
Let's hope he's not allergic... can you imagine life
without a decent chunk of Cheddar, or not having a magnum ice cream in
the summer... It doesn't bare thinking about!

So... for the next weeks we shall continue to juggle our
lives between the hospital and caring for Liam. It's been a very
emotional ride, we hate having to leave him every time.
Last night he wouldn't go to sleep... he was laying there
with wide eyes, staring at me...
I couldn't bring myself to leave until he was sleeping!

Daphne is healing well after her ordeal. She walks like
John Wayne but it's kinda cute just the same! At sometime after the
birth i left her to see that Charlie was OK... when i returned i
had to check twice i had entered the correct room... it
looked like a horse had been butchered!
The nurse was telling me how incredible the placenta
is.... but it looked like an ugly lump
of liver to me!
The staff at the OLVG and AMC are incredible. I feel
humbled to realize that certain people dedicate their lives to the
welfare of others.
Thanks for all your support, understanding and kind
words. We appreciate it and look
forward to celebrating the healthy return of Charlie
Curtis Broad.
Meanwhile... Liam has been
totally unaffected by the whole ordeal... er... we think!!
